USS Oklahoma (BB-37) was a Nevada-class battleship built by the New York Shipbuilding Corporation for the United States Navy, notable for being the first American class of oil-burning dreadnoughts. Commissioned in 1916, Oklahoma served in World War I as a part of Battleship Division Six, protecting Allied convoys on their way across the Atlantic. Lincoln R. Groff of Perkasie, Pennsylvania, was a volunteer civilian worker for the Navy Department in Hawaii from June 1942 to 1944, then was called to inactive Navy service in 1945. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and assigned to the Adjutant General's Office in Honolulu as a T/4 Sergeant in 1946. He was discharged from the Army in June 1947 and returned to Pennsylvania.
